Cutler Clings to Narrowing Lead in Maine

Independent Eliot Cutler’s lead in the Maine gubernatorial race has been steadily shrinking as the night has gone on.

With just over 15% of the votes reporting, Cutler has fallen to 40%, leading Republican Paul LePage, who has 32%.    The Democrat and several other independents trailed well behind.

The Republican had been the clear front-runner, almost from the start.  But the Cutler campaign is hoping a last-minute surge will boost him to victory.

On December 9, 2009, Cutler officially launched his campaign for governor of Maine. If elected, he would be Maine’s third Independent governor. He was endorsed by Maine’s second Independent governor, Angus King.
