Ed Thompson Falls Short in Wisconsin

Former Libertarian gubernatorial candidate Ed Thompson narrowly lost a race for Wisconsin State Senate, running as a Republican.

With almost all votes counted, Thompson trails incumbent Democrat Kathleen Vinehout by about 300 votes.

For those who don’t remember, Thompson is the brother of former Wisconsin governor and Presidential candidate Tommy Thompson.

Ed Thompson has served as the mayor of Tomah and was the Libertarian Party’s nominee for governor in 2002, winning 185,455 votes or 10.5% in a hotly contested three-way race.   He is battling cancer and our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very difficult time.
