Ed Thompson Within Spitting Distance in Wisconsin Senate Race

Libertarian-turned-Republican Ed Thompson is trailing incumbent State Senator Kathleen Vinehout by about 200 votes with 92% of precints reporting.

With 144 of 156 precincts fully reported, Thompson has 27,672 votes to Vinehout’s 27,894 votes.

For those who don’t remember, Thompson is the brother of former Wisconsin governor and Presidential candidate Tommy Thompson.

Ed Thompson has served as the mayor of Tomah and was the Libertarian Party’s nominee for governor in 2002, winning 185,455 votes or 10.5% in a hotly contested three-way race. Now, running as a Republican, he stands a very good chance of winning a seat in the Wisconsin Senate.
