Cutler Falling Short in Maine

After taking a big early lead in Maine’s gubernatorial race, Eliot Cutler has fallen behind Republican Paul LePage by about 1,500 votes with 67% of the state reporting.

It seems that LePage’s strongest showings were in the rural interior counties of the state, which take longer to report.  See below for a map.

Cutler would become the second independent elected to a governorship tonight as Lincoln Chaffee was elected in Rhode Island by a 2% margin.
