Herman Cain Set to Officially Join GOP Contest Tomorrow at Noon Rally in Atlanta

The announcements keep coming. Some in, some out.

Herman Cain, the former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza, is expected to declare his candidacy for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination tomorrow at a noon rally at Centennial Olympic Park in downtown Atlanta.

Cain, a rising star in the Tea Party movement, has been actively crisscrossing the country since January, laying the groundwork for a presidential campaign.

Cain’s performance in the South Carolina Republican presidential debate on May 5 catapulted the long-shot candidate to a 14 percent showing in a Zogby interactive poll released last week, only three percentage points behind poll leader New Jersey Chris Christie. Christie has consistently deflected any interest in entering the crowded GOP race.

Fellow Georgian Newt Gingrich, the former Speaker of the House whose troubled candidacy nearly unraveled during his first week on the campaign trail, polled 7 percent in that poll.

Cain’s announcement will reportedly be covered live by CNN, Fox News and C-SPAN.
