Ron Paul’s Quarterly Haul Exceeds $3.5 Million; Cain’s ‘Money Bomb’ Fizzles

With Thursday’s quarterly fundraising deadline looming on the horizon, Herman Cain’s first “money bomb” — an online fundraising tool perfected long ago by rival Ron Paul — appears to have fizzled.

As of early Tuesday morning, it appears that Cain’s online money bomb raised only $66,634.

The former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza was hoping to receive at least 2,500 pledges, but appears to have fallen far short of his goal.

None of the Republican hopefuls are expected to come anywhere close to frontrunner Mitt Romney, who’s expected to report a $15-20 million haul in the second quarter.

As of 2 a.m. ET on Tuesday, Ron Paul’s website reported that the Texas congressman’s second quarter numbers had already exceeded $3.5 million. Paul’s money bombs set several online fundraising records during the 2008 campaign.

I suspect the final amount to be quite a bit higher – not only because there will be a big final push campaign, but there is a history of Paul’s behind-the-scenes financial commitments suddenly coming to fruition in the nick of time.

well, here it is the last day – still hours to go – and as I suspected the amount RP raised has risen sharply … bottom line now totals more than $4 million. He’s hauled in $500,000+ in the 48 hrs. since the news item was posted.

Just checked his totals again – over $4.2 million – that’s about $200K in four hours. Me thinks they’re counting slowly (my cynical self says on purpose) … will $5 million will come in by midnight CA time? You do the math.

I was wrong, sorta. He ended up, apparently, raised $4.5 million – not $5 million, but the full amount he raised does not have to be reported until 7/5. He did break through his initial goal of $3 million with ease, but fell a bit short of his secondary target of $5 million.
