Roy Moore Injured in Horse-Riding Accident

Former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore, a long-shot candidate for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, suffered several broken ribs in a horse-riding accident at his farm near Gadsden on Sunday.

According to his wife, the 64-year-old Moore was injured while attempting to get on a horse. He was treated by an orthopedic specialist and is now recuperating at home.

Moore, who formed a presidential exploratory committee in April, was removed from office almost a decade ago for refusing to remove a display of the Ten Commandments from the rotunda of the state courthouse.

Moore, who had turned down overtures from the Constitution Party to head its ticket in the 2004 presidential election, ran unsuccessfully for the Republican nomination for governor of Alabama in 2006 and 2010.
