Green Party’s Jill Stein Set to Declare White House Bid

Vowing to end joblessness in the United States while stopping Wall Street’s rampant looting of Main Street, Dr. Jill Stein will declare her candidacy for the Green Party’s presidential nomination on Monday on the steps of the State House in Boston.

A longtime activist, physician and pioneering health-advocate, the 61-year-old Stein stated in a media advisory that her campaign for the White House will focus on a “Green New Deal” to jump-start the nation’s sluggish economy and provide public-sector jobs for millions of unemployed citizens while seeking “to reverse the growing concentration of power and wealth in the hands of the top 1%.”

Stein, who polled more than 76,000 votes, or 3.5 percent, in a spirited 2002 race for governor of Massachusetts against current GOP presidential frontrunner Mitt Romney and Democrat Shannon O’Brien, accused President Obama of betraying millions of progressive voters who supported him in 2008 by continuing the policies of George W. Bush, most notably by escalating the war in Afghanistan and extending the Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthy.

Stein also faulted the Democratic President for ignoring the nation’s jobs crisis for most of his term and failing to take action on climate change.

A sharp critic of “Romneycare” — the model for President Obama’s controversial Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act — the Harvard-educated doctor wants to make health care a universal right and favors an expanded and robust single-payer Medicare for All program “as the only financially affordable path to quality health care for all.”

Stein, who hopes to qualify for presidential primary matching funds, expects to qualify for the ballot in at least forty states next fall as the Green Party‘s nominee.

  1. I’m so glad she’s running. I think one of the most important things to mention is that she, like any other Green candidate, doesn’t accept corporate donations. Since this is pretty much one of the most important issues in American politics today (i.e., that politicians are so financed by big companies that they can’t be trusted to appropriately represent the voters), every single voter should know this about her.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to vote for someone other than those selected by the two major parties.

  3. This women sounds just what America need right now. However she will never be heard because the other two parties will muscle her out of appearing in any debate, interviewing on a major network, or worst of all pushing her off of ballots. Great system we have in America. I thought monopolies were against the law. She recognizes the misplaced trust America gave Barack OBush and the changes that never came. Wall Street and the big banks are still doing business as usual. What happened to the outrage of CEO salaries? They are back milking our corporations. Bank of America just reported a large profit. I would like to know how much debt they are not reporting. Dr. Stein deserves to be heard. I would like to know more about her “Green New Deal” and how she would make health care for everyone work.

  4. I am now officially an EX-Democrat, having changed my registration to Green. The “Defense Authorization Act”, which basically creates a police state in America, is the final straw. We’ve got to let the Democrats know that these policies are NOT “cost-free”; and that, if they do such things, their base will desert them–even if it means electing right-wing Republicans. Apparently the Democrats have to find out the HARD WAY that the old “lesser of two evils” line isn’t going to work any more. We just can’t afford to let this country–and the world–go to ruin while they play their political games. I’m voting for Jill Stein. She won’t get elected, but at least she’s someone I can feel proud to support.
