Anthony Weiner Weighing Mayoral Bid?

According to the New York Daily News, disgraced former Congressman Anthony Weiner, who resigned from office nineteen months ago amid a widely-publicized sexting scandal, has reportedly commissioned a private poll to gauge support for a possible bid for mayor of New York.

The anonymous poll asked those surveyed to select their preference in a hypothetical five-way Democratic mayoral primary between the former seven-term congressman and four declared Democratic hopefuls, including City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, Controller John Liu, Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, and former Controller Bill Thompson, who waged a surprisingly competitive race against Mayor Bloomberg in 2009 — losing to the two-term incumbent by fewer than 51,000 votes out of nearly 1.2 million votes cast.

Weiner, who’s reportedly sitting on a campaign war chest of $3.9 million, most of which was raised while he was exploring a possible mayoral bid four years ago, has long had his eye on Gracie Mansion and was considered a leading contender for mayor until forced from office by scandal in June of 2011.
