Walker Welcomes Palin Endorsement of Alaska Unity Ticket

Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin has endorsed Bill Walker’s “unity ticket” over her own former lieutenant governor.

The incumbent Republican Governor, Sean Parnell, first took office in 2009 when Palin resigned before her term had expired. He then won a full term on his own in 2010. Walker challenged Parnell in the GOP primary back in 2010 and is running as an Independent this time around. The Walker campaign is being branded as an Alaska Unity ticket as Walker’s running mate is former Democratic gubernatorial nominee Byron Mallott.

Palin recently hosted a fundraiser at her home for the Walker campaign.

“The ability to move us forward by empowering a thriving private sector takes unifying action. Too many long-awaited projects and challenges — like the National Guard scandal — are made worse because of indecisive leadership, and that’s debilitating,” Palin explained as her reason for backing the Unity ticket. “We can’t afford to put development on the back burner while other states and nations surpass our opportunities, and we can’t sweep ethics problems under the table.”

Walker said that Palin has joined “a long line of Alaskans from all political persuasions who are ready for a new direction for Alaska.”
