Independent Greg Orman Defeated in Kansas U.S. Senate Race

Despite holding a comfortable lead just a few weeks ago, independent candidate Greg Orman has been defeated by incumbent Republican Senator Pat Roberts in Kansas.

Some are grumbling that Vice-President Joe Biden may have helped to cost Orman the race when he announced that Orman would caucus with the Democrats if elected.

Orman is a wealthy businessman who self-funded his campaign. He catapulted to national fame when Democrat Chad Taylor ended his bid and endorsed Orman, setting up the possibility that Kansas would send a non-Republican to the U.S. Senate for the first time in 80 years.

Orman currently has 44% of the vote and MSNBC has called the race for Pat Roberts.
